Villa d'Este Free Entry Days: Dates and What to Check

Updated:

Rometta Fountain, a miniature Rome at Villa d'Este

Villa d’Este offers free entry on the first Sunday of every month, on 25 April, 2 June and 4 November, and free entry for women on 8 March. These dates come from the Villae website, the body that manages the villa. Confirm the details on the official ticket page before you travel.

Which days is Villa d’Este free?

Day Who gets in free
First Sunday of the month Everyone
25 April (Liberation Day) Everyone
2 June (Republic Day) Everyone
4 November (Armed Forces and National Unity Day) Everyone
8 March (International Women’s Day) Women

The holiday names are the Italian national occasions that fall on those dates, to help you recognise them. The list of free days is from the official Villae tickets and hours page.

What is the first Sunday free entry?

On the first Sunday of every month, entry is free, according to the Villae page. Because the villa is popular, expect it to be busy on those days.

Should I expect crowds on free days?

Very likely. Free days attract many visitors, and the villa can limit the number of people entering at busy times. Arrive early, ideally for the 08:30 opening, and have patience at the entrance. Our visit tips explain how to handle limited entry and when to arrive.

Do I need to book on a free day?

We could not confirm this in our sources. Some free openings in the past have been without reservation, for example a special evening opening with a 1 euro ticket and no booking, but rules can differ by date. Check the official page for the specific day.

What about special free or cheap openings?

Occasional events exist. One example in 2026 was an evening opening for the European Heritage Days on 26 September, from 19:45 to 23:45, with the last entry at 22:45 and a ticket price of 1 euro, with no reservation. Events like this are announced on the Villae website, so look there for current news.

Is Villa d’Este free for children or seniors?

Different sources report different rules and prices, and we have not been able to confirm the current official ticket structure. Because sources conflict, we do not list prices here. Look at the tickets page and the Villae site for the current rates and reductions.

Free day or ticket: which is better?

A free day saves money, but it is usually more crowded. If you want to see the fountains calmly or catch a specific Organ show, a regular day with early arrival may be a better experience. If you are on a budget and flexible, a first Sunday can be a good choice.

If you visit more than one site

The villa is part of a group of sites in Tivoli managed by Villae. If you also plan to visit Hadrian’s Villa, read about the Villae Pass and our guide to visiting both in one day.

Before you go

  1. Check the date against the table above.
  2. Read the opening hours, as Monday mornings are closed.
  3. Check the Villae notices for any change, for example closures or limited entry.
  4. Plan how to arrive: see getting there.
