Hadrian’s Villa (Villa Adriana) is open every day, apart from 1 January and 25 December, and the gates open at 08:30. The main things to plan around are the monthly closing time, which is much earlier in winter, and the terrain: paths with changes in level on a site of about 40 visitable hectares. Wear low, comfortable shoes and arrive in the morning.
What are the opening hours of Hadrian’s Villa?
The official table lists an entry window, an exit time and separate hours for the museums and the scale model. The end of the entry window matches the last entry on official event pages, but the site does not label it “last entry” for every month, so treat it as a guide and check the official page. All times are on the 24-hour clock.
| Month | Entry | Exit | Museums and scale model |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 08:30-15:30 | 17:00 | 09:00-16:30 |
| February | 08:30-16:00 | 17:30 | 09:00-17:00 |

| October (daylight saving time) | 08:30-17:00 | 18:30 | 09:00-18:00 |
| October (standard time) | 08:30-16:00 | 17:30 | 09:00-17:00 |
| November | 08:30-15:30 | 17:00 | 09:00-16:30 |
| December | 08:30-15:30 | 17:00 | 09:00-16:30 |
More detail is on our opening hours page. The date when the clocks change is not given in the table, so check which period applies for late March and October.
Is Hadrian’s Villa open on Mondays?
Yes. Unlike some other sites, it is open every day. The only regular closures are 1 January and 25 December. Special openings and temporary changes do occur, such as evening openings and one-day schedule changes, and they are announced on the website.
Why does the winter closing time matter?
From November to January the entry window ends at 15:30, so you cannot arrive in the afternoon and expect a full visit. Start in the morning, and remember that the museums and the scale model also close earlier.
What should you wear and expect on the ground?
The site has paths and changes in level. The official advice is comfortable clothing and low shoes. Avoid heeled or smooth-soled shoes. A larger area means more walking than you may expect, so pace yourself. For the monuments themselves, see what to see.
What services are on site?
- Toilets
- Drinking fountains
- A small refreshment point
- Information panels describing the monuments
Shade, an internal shuttle and the exact duration of a visit are not confirmed in our sources, so we do not give estimates.
Is Hadrian’s Villa accessible?
An accessible map in PDF format is available on the official site. Rules for a golf cart service are published too, but whether the service runs is not confirmed. For questions about reduced mobility, contact the institute directly at va-ve.accessibilita@cultura.gov.it, or visit the accessibility page.
When is the best time to arrive?
Arrive in the morning, when the gates open at 08:30. This matters most in winter. On the first Sunday of each month entry is free, so expect more visitors then; see tickets for the full list of free days.
Can you bring a dog?
The official pages do not say. Write to va-ve@cultura.gov.it to ask before you go.
What about getting there?
By car, take the A24 motorway, Tivoli exit; paid parking is in front of the entrance. By public transport, take metro line B to Ponte Mammolo, then a Cotral bus (the regional bus company) along Via Prenestina to a stop about 300 m from the entrance. Full details are in getting there.
